Bluegrass Benefit for Ashley Smith

hello

Ashley Smith, baby, and Highway 76

November 29, 2006 - A benefit was recently held to show support for Union County High School Coach Ashley Smith. One of the organizers of the benefit, Head Coach Terry Rogers presented Smith with a check for over $10,000 at the end of the evening.

The money is needed to help with medical expenses incurred after the birth of Smith's five-month old baby. Smith, recently a teacher and coach at UCHS, is currently a stay-at-home mom.

UCHS CoachesThree popular bluegrass bands performed at the event. Hwy. 76 of Blairsville, Georgia started off the evening with some toe-tapping songs. Blue Ridge Grass of Blue Ridge, Georgia was next with a variety of traditional and harmonic bluegrass tunes. Last, but not least, The Barker Brother's Band of Copperhill, Tennessee entertained everyone with their unique sound.

It was evident that emotions were running high with well wishes for Smith. A live diamond-ring auction brought high bids with the winner donating the ring to be auctioned off a second time. Sales of raffle tickets, admission tickets, and donations raised enough to make the evening a huge success. Thanks to all the organizers of the event and to all the community members that gave with an open heart.
