The new owners of Birdyard Seed Company recently celebrated with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting. The Schlecht family welcomed guests with homemade cakes, coffee, and hot cider.

Many new items have been added to the store's inventory. The Birdyard Seed Company sells all kinds of bird accessories and gifts. Items include bird feeders, Cole's birdseed, bird houses, bird bathes, stained glass, nature books, candles, coffee mugs, thermometers, customized gift baskets, local artwork, cards, binoculars, wind chimes, and other unique bird supplies and garden decor. There is even a kid's corner with games and educational tools.

Gladdis Schlecht says, "We have been visiting Blairsville for twenty years and bought a home here a few years ago. After living in St. Petersburg , Florida we like to see the snow and it's nice to get a chance to wear sweaters."

Herb told about deciding to purchase the store. The Schlecht family did a lot of shopping at Birdyard Seed Company and really liked the theme of the store. When they saw an ad in the North Georgia News announcing that the business was for sale, they acted quickly. The rest is history.

Gladdis and Herb Schlecht have two grown children, Kathryn and Robert. They have one ten-year-old granddaughter, Ryley. The business is family owned and operated with Kathryn filling the role of Store Manager.

Birdyard Seed Company welcomes everyone to drop in to visit the store. Old and new customers are sure to find that perfect gift or a beautiful addition to their back yard. The shop is located at 29B Highway 515 in Blairsville, Georgia.
