The
Blairsville Cruisers held
their August Cruise-In on
the Square in Downtown Blairsville
on August 4, 2007. A crowd
of car, truck, and motorcycle
enthusiasts gathered to
see the classic and antique
automobiles that were on
display. There were raffles,
a 50/50 drawing, and door
prizes with all proceeds
going to local charities.
One car in the show was
a rare 1958 Fairlane Victoria
all the way from Texas .
It was photographed from
every possible angle as
the proud owners looked
on. Every month different
cars, trucks, and motorcycles
arrive in town for the event.
Sports cars were especially
popular this month. Everything
from compact European convertibles
to sleek Chevy Corvettes
were present.
The Cruise-In is a great
way to show off a beautiful
ride. Many of the Cruisers
are well known local boys
from Blairsville with a
love for classic autos.
They started the free Cruise-In
events in order to have
fun and to benefit Blairsville
at the same time. All classic,
antique, muscle, or special
interest cars, trucks and
motorcycles are welcome
to participate in the show.
After walking around admiring
the large and varied selection
of shiny cars and trucks,
visitors enjoy sitting under
the shade trees and listening
to music by local band Highway
76. Their bluegrass style
of music is straight from
the heart and showcases
a mountain heritage of rich
lyrics and lively tunes.
Many local businesses keep
their doors open later than
usual for the event. They
provide visitors with places
to eat and places to shop.
Many thanks go to all the
business owners that participate
in the monthly Cruise-Ins
by donating gift certificates
and raffle items.
The Cruise-In car shows
draw visitors from all around
Union County and from all
over the southeast. Community
events like the Cruise-In
help keep the downtown area
alive and energized. People
gather to see old friends
and to make new ones.
The Blairsville Cruise-Ins
are held on the 1 st Saturday
of each month March through
November. The next Cruise-In
is scheduled for September
1, 2007 so mark your calendars.
Registration is free and entitles
car owners to be eligible
for drawings and prizes.
