The First Baptist Church
of Blairsville was recently
the scene of an old-fashioned
barbeque picnic luncheon
complete with bonnets and
hats, long dresses, homemade
ice-cream, decorations,
and good fellowship.
Over 50 ladies gathered
to honor 94 year old Ruthie
Carnley and 98 year old
Thorna Holmes. (The youngest
little lady was Sidney Marek
at 3 years old.)
Both of these ninety-something
ladies look and act many
years younger. They enjoy
life to its fullest each
and every day. They may
have to listen a little
closer to catch every word,
they might need an arm to
lean on now and again, but
life is still full of excitement
for Ruthie and Thorna. You
can tell by the sparkle
in their eyes.
Sherry Moriarty planned
the event to celebrate her
mother's birthday. She also
wrote and read a beautiful
poem. As daughter Sherry
read the words aloud to
Miss Ruthie, many guests
wiped tears from their eyes.
It was a memorable moment.
Sherry says, "My mom is
wonderful. I wanted to show
my thanks for all she does
by throwing this country-woman
birthday celebration."
Sherry
did the cooking. The menu
included lemonade, barbeque
chicken, corn, baked beans,
and coleslaw. Dessert included
strawberry shortcake with
homemade ice cream. Everything
was delicious.
