November
8, 2006 - Members of the
Union County Beta Epsilon
Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma
Society International recently
brought crates of dictionaries
to Union County Elementary
School. Each 4th grade
student received their very
own copy to use throughout
the school years.
Delta Kappa Gamma members
Debra Collins, Eva Decker,
and Janice Cochran handed
out the dictionaries to
the children. UCES Principle
Marty Hall and United Community
Bank Representative Teresa
Dorton were on hand to offer
support to the dedicated
ladies of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Over 2 million children
have received a dictionary
due to The Dictionary Project.
The Dictionary Project is
a nonprofit organization
with a goal of assisting
all students to complete
the school year as good
writers, active readers,
and creative thinkers. The
dictionaries are a gift
to each student to use at
school and at home for years
to come.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International is an organization
of professional women educators.
With a membership of over
120,000 in 14 countries,
the society recognizes achievements
of women educators, offers
opportunities to enhance
leadership development,
and funds diverse learning
opportunities.
The Beta Epsilon Chapter
of Delta Kappa Gamma partners
with United Community Bank
to participate in the Dictionary
Project. The children receive
immediate and long term
results. They get to hold
the dictionary, use it at
school, and take it home.
The dictionaries not only
help with spelling and writing,
but help build a better
vocabulary. Dictionaries
are an essential tool for
a quality education.
The local community and
the Union County Elementary
School 4 th graders would
like to send a big "thank-you" to
the ladies of Beta Epsilon.
