October 3, 2007 - Eckerd Academy hosts open house and ribbon cutting in Union County
Friends and members of the business community recently met at Eckerd Academy in Suches, Georgia to participate in an open house and Blairsville Union County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting. President and CEO David Dennis said, "We are thrilled to open our first facility in Georgia for private care youth. We invite the community out to learn about what we will offer to youth and their families."
The program will be open for business on Monday, Oct. 8. Youth who are accepted in the program will live there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It is designed for boys and girls who are having trouble in academics and social responsibility. Located on 205 acres in Union County , EYA has operated a program on the site since 1996 for youths who were referred by the state. That program was closed several months ago.
Improvements for the new program include the addition of two additional campsites, fresh coats of paint on all the buildings, landscaping, and the addition of ten new computers to the education building.
