October
6, 2007 - The Blairsville
Home Depot recently hosted
Fire Safety Day. The annual
event is a fun day with
exciting projects for children
of all ages. Kids participated
in this year's festivities
by building a wooden fire
truck and learning all about
fire safety.
A highlight of the day
was a visit by Smokey Bear.
Children and adults are
always glad to see their
friend. Smokey says, “ If
you start a fire, put it
out. Only you can prevent
wildfires.”
Tips were offered to children
on fire safety and included
always having an adult to
help with cooking projects,
reminding parents to check
batteries in smoke alarms,
and practicing an escape
plan regularly. Safety lessons
included what to do if your
clothes catch fire. Stop,
drop, and roll is easy for
young people to remember
and extremely effective
in emergency situations.
Everyone enjoyed a free
lunch with hotdogs and all
the trimmings. Many agencies
and businesses contributed
to the success of Fire Safety
Day. Thanks to all that
participated and helped
sponsor the event.
The community would like to
express their appreciation
to Home Depot for hosting
the Fire Safety Day. Home
Depot associates work hard
to prepare for the event and
it is evident that they really
care about giving back to
the community. For information
about future projects and
events call the local Home
Depot.
