North Georgia Technical
College in Blairsville,
Georgia recently observed
American Free Enterprise
Day. Members of PBL (Phi
Beta Lambda) welcomed guest
speaker, Bob Anderson of
Bank of Hiawassee. Students
from Hiawassee High School
FBLA also attended the informal
presentation.
Anderson explained how
to plan for retirement.
He talked about aggressive
and conservative plans,
individual IRA's, 401-Ks,
and the benefits of putting
pre-tax dollars into an
account. “It's called virgin
money because it's never
been touched by the government,” said
Anderson . “Add on interest
and the compounding effect
allows money to grow at
a faster rate. Of course,
the types of investments
affect the outcome.”

Anderson advised everyone
not to rely on Social Security
to meet their needs in retirement
years. He told about mutual
funds and how rewards depend
on risk. He explained how
Certificate of Deposits,
if held for many years,
may not keep up with the
rate of inflation.
Anderson ended the presentation
with a few words of wisdom, “It's
never wise to draw upon
your retirement investments
to buy a new car! Have a
long term plan and stick
to it.”
PBL and North Georgia Technical
College students would like
