August 2008 - The
Union Towns Employer Committee
is experiencing a very successful
year in 2008. Combining
regular business meetings
with Lunch and Learn events,
membership in the Employer
Committee has grown and
attendance is up significantly.
Employer
Committee Chairperson
(and Brasstown Valley
Resort Human Resources
Director) Joyce Gandy says, “I
am very proud of our local
Employer Committee and what
we have been able to accomplish
this past year. We recently
found out that the State
Employer Committee is also
very proud of our accomplishments
and will be recognizing
the Union Towns Employer
Committee at this year’s
2008 Georgia Employer Committee
State Conference in Savannah.
The Union/Towns Employer
Committee has been chosen
for either Project of the
Year or Community Service
of the Year - it is a secret
until the conference.”
The
Union Towns Employer Committee
members are a dedicated
group of people. They volunteer their time
and talents to help the
Committee reach meaningful
goals. Not only does the
Employer Committee have
support from its members,
but also from other local
organizations (such as the
Blairsville-Union Chamber
of Commerce and Towns County
Chamber of Commerce). These
relationships have allowed
the Union Towns Employer
Committee to become a strong
and vital part of the Northeast
Georgia area.
Joyce
continues, “I
also want to mention one
of our fundraisers - the
CHEF’S TABLE at Brasstown
Valley Resort. Executive
Chef Sid Kurrimbukus donates
his time, talent and food
to create a five-course
meal that is made special
for the attendees and presented
by him. All monies raised
go directly into the Committee’s
treasury to help fund the
scholarship programs. On
August 18 th five couples
will be chosen by a raffle
drawing to attend the Chef’s
Table 2008. This year’s
event will be held on Tuesday
August 26th at 6:00 pm at
the Dining Room at Brasstown
Valley Resort. This is the
4th year we have been able
to offer this unique culinary
treat. One ticket costs
only $10.00 and last year’s
winners agree that it’s
a once in a lifetime experience.”
Joyce
adds, “I am
blessed to be part of a
group of people who enjoy
each other’s interactions
and contribute to the success
of our communities. I am
equally blessed to have
an executive board with
Sonny Mahan, Rob Murray,
Leslie Shields, Fran Reilly,
and Debbie Parsons. Their
talent, sense of humor,
and dedication are keys
to our success on the local
and state level. Thank you!”
