The Union County 5th and
6th Grade Academy was recently
the scene of a lively and
entertaining Country Fair.
There were games, food,
arts and crafts, and even
a cake walk. The 21 st Century
staff held the fair as a
wrap-up to a great season
of hands-on learning and
fun activities.
The Country Fair was not
only a fun celebration,
but it also gave parents
an opportunity to see what
their children accomplished
during the 21 st Century
Program. There were exhibits
from each age group. The
young people worked hard
to make each presentation
interesting and attractive.
Program Director Katy Jones
says, "Going and doing has
been a big part of the summer
program. We have had fun
while learning." The participants
had a busy summer with field
trips to many destinations
including Vogel State Park
, Cagle's Dairy, Meeks Park
, the Mock House & Payne
Cabin, Helen, and Norcross.
Activities included swimming,
tubing, and an educational
tour of the Norcross Courthouse.
All the money raised from
sales of Country Fair tickets
will go back into the Union
County 21 st Century program.
The 21 st Century after
school and summer program
offers academic enrichment
with hands-on learning that
complements the regular
academic programs. The 21
st Century Program also
offers literacy and other
educational services to
the families of participating
children.
